Basic Training Syllabus
3 Phase Transformation
In order to mold recruits into combat effective soldiers, they will be trained in 3 primary phases.
Red Phase- Military Foundation
Topics Covered:
1. Drill and Ceremony (DnC or marching)
Recruits will learn self discipline and attention to detail by learning the three facing movements.
2. Military Customs and Courtesies
Recruits will learn how to address an officer, an NCO, and when a salute is appropriate..
3. Rules and Regulations
Recruits will be taught the basic rules of the unit such as always obey an order, no team killing, etc.
White Phase- Soldier Academics
Topics Covered:
1. Army Rank System
Recruits will learn every enlisted, warrant officer, and commissioned officer rank in the United States Army, as well as their corresponding pay grades.
2. Chain of Command
Recruits will be taught the chain of command from Colonel Pitts down to a fireteam leader. They will also be taught the role of that man.
3. MOS Options
Recruits must be taught what MOS will be available for them to enter after Basic Training.
4. Terminology
Recruits will learn the names of basic infantry and navigational equipment.
5. Weapons and Equipment
Recruits will learn the characteristics of the M16A2, M16A4, M4, M4A1, and M249. They will also cover iron sights, CCOs, scopes, thermal sights, and safe weapon handling procedures.
6. Vehicles and Aircraft
Recruits will be taught what vehicles are used in 10th MD, and have an understanding of common troop carrier aircraft.
Blue Phase- Welcome to the Army
Topics Covered:
1. Gear Issue
Recruits will be issued an M4A1 iron sight rifle, a map, map tools, safety goggles, earplugs, a GPS, a DAGR, and VHF radio.
2. Communication
Recruits will be taught how to use only the UHF radio, as well as radio etiquette.
3. Marksmanship
Recruits will learn how to use, maintain, and accurately fire their weapon.
4. AT and Ordinance Training
Recruits will receive instruction on how to use rocket launchers, grenade launchers, and grenades.
5. Tactical Movement
Recruits will learn line, column, and delta formations. They will also be taught how to bound, stack, and clear a room.
6. Map Reading/ Navigation
Recruits will learn how read to a grid, use a compass, and how to program a DAGR.
7. IED detection
Recruits will learn how to spot an IED, and how to avoid triggering one until an EOD specialist arrives.
8. Moving in water
Recruits will learn how to board and exit boats, as well as the do’s and don’ts of swimming.
Graduation- Private E-2 Time
Topics Covered:
1. Final testing
2. MOS Selection
3. Choosing of Honor Graduates
4. Graduation Ceremony
Persons Authorized to Attend Basic Training:
Any Drill Instructors- Conducts training
2 Instructor Aids- (must be at least E-3, but lower than E-5) Assists in gear issue, range management, security, etc. DOES NOT INSTRUCT!!
Any non-training Commissioned Officers- observes, recruits for their unit
AFTER BCT, SOLDIERS WILL GO ON TO AIT DEPENDENT ON THEIR MOS
